I'm living in a cancer knoll!

James' WeblogWhilst on the train this morning I started thinking about all the EMR sources in and around my house. It got me thinking...

Fixed!

Site NewsI've finally got around to recreating the missing galleries and making sure the links work again (yay!). Plus I've modified the backup scripts so they verify the backed up data, if the backup is bad is notifies me :) Now I can get back to doing normal website stuff. Stay tuned - I'll be uploading some more recent photo's of us all real soon!

Broken, broken - all is busted

General NewsLong story short: my web server was attacked. The attackers didn't gain access, but they caused it to crash. Data was lost. All the galleries I've made/edited etc since November 2004 are gone. I will need to recreate them. If you find a dead link, please let me know!

Moral to the story: make sure your backups are good before you need to rely on them!! November 2004 was the most recent "good" backup :(

New galleries and some news

General NewsNot a lot to report, but I have added a few new galleries for your viewing pleasure. Most people that know us got an e-mail, but I thought I'd throw this little story up with the links so people can find it easily. Anyway, here's the new photo's:

Downtime - lots of arcing-sparking goin\' on!

Site NewsYup - I got hit in those thunderstorms that clobbered southern NSW on Tuesday night. We lost the power for about 30 minutes but the Internet connection was down for a bit longer (in fact, I'm writing this without it - so no idea when it will be back up). Just figured some people might want to know why we went offline... so now you know.

Update: Wednesday February 02, 2005 @1:40PM:
Internet connection came back up around 10:30am today, but the web server's cooling fan died and the system did a thermal shutdown (oops). That's fixed now (after 2 trips to the local electronics store...8cm fan nope, take 2, needed a 9cm fan! DOH!). Hopefully this is the end of the downtime for a while!

Come fly with me! Come fly, come fly away....

James' WeblogWell, four and a half years after flying my last professional flight, I'm now BACK in the air!! Three flights in the last week or so with Southern Cross Gliding Club. Yesterday I even managed a 1hr 46min flight on nothing more than rising air. Shouldn't be long now and I'll be solo again :)

Stay tuned, I'll be adding a new photo album and maybe some video in the not-too-distant future.

Christmas Holidays

General NewsWe're back - and we survived! The epic "Home - Lismore (via Port Macquarie) - Cairns - Lismore - Home" trip is done and dusted. Now that we've had a chance to recover and do the washing, cleaning and sleeping I thought I'd better let people know about our Christmas escape :)

This is just too cool!

TechnologyOK, so my "inner geek" is coming out, but this is just too cool:
A standard truck that runs on hydrogen AND generates it's own fuel via solar panels!!

Here's a quote from the article: "Built for less than $10,000, the project has caught the attention of experts in alternative-fuel research.
"Over the past three years of research in hydrogen, I've been more impressed with what they did than anything else I've seen around the world," said Scottsdale inventor Bryan Beaulieu"

Yes I'm a nerd, but this is such a great step away from our dependence on oil. Oil is running out (or can't be produced at a rate to meet demand) and this will only get worse as time drags on. A little more focussed research and lateral thinking and we could could have cleaner, more efficient hydrogen-fuel-based vehicles :)

Gallery comments re-enabled!

Site NewsAfter many weeks without anyone being able to leave comments in the galleries (photos) section, I can proudly announce that it's working again! There's a catch - you gotta create an account and log into "The Gray Matter" to leave comments. This will prevent the defacing I experienced recently.

Click HERE to create an account if you don't have one already :) I don't use your details for anything other than allowing you to log in. I will never pass on your information (even if you ASK me to!) to anyone......ever.
